Where to buy your next sign
Nowadays everything is done online, even if we touch and feel something at a store we might go home and buy it online because we might be able to get it cheaper or we finally decided to go ahead and do it.
But should you consider buying from a sign shop or is online ordering more efficient?
It all depends on your skill level and what you are using the sign for. Before you decide to buy online you should ask yourself:
• Do you need a lot of advice or have a lot of questions about getting started?
• Are you picky about the material it is printed on?
• Do you have experiencing in design?
• Will it be too late to remake this sign if I mess up?
• If the sign isn’t perfect will that be okay?
• Do I need help installing it?
• Will it end up costing me more to make one sign at a shop or two signs online?
Online sites will have low prices but they are often very limited in materials and you may have to use a custom template. If you have any custom design questions this may be harder to execute online. If an error is made on your end you may need to reorder or if an error is made on their end you may have to wait for them to send you another.
If you prefer to have a casual consultation and have lots of questions it may be helpful to use a sign shop instead. Sign shops offer a lot of feedback, as they are often experienced and versatile in their knowledge of different types of signs (depending on the shop). Shops often have access to more materials or can order them in. Shops –especially smaller ones will also be able to keep a keener eye on your project and spot if something is wrong or looks incorrect before it’s produced, saving you time and money but keep in mind, since you are dealing with professionals directly you may wind up paying more than you would online but for a much higher quality service and often material.
There is a misconception that online is often faster, but this depends on the sign or service required. You can often find same day or next day service if you –
• Talk to the right people or the right shop
• Request signage during a slow work time for the shop
• Discuss it with the owner or manager
